Quote of the Day

In 1960, Barry Goldwater published The Conscience of a Conservative. In it, he noted “Conservatism is not an economic theory, though it has economic implications. The shoe is precisely on the other foot: it is Socialism that subordinates all other considerations to man’s material well-being. It is Conservatism that puts material things in their proper place — that has a structured view of the human being and of human society, in which economics plays only a subsidiary role. The root difference between the Conservatives and the Liberals of today is that Conservatives take account of the whole man, while Liberals tend to look only at the material side of man’s nature.”

Politics & Political Correctness-What has America Become?

TCG Supports Myrna McLeroy

Texans for Constitutional Government (TCG) supports Myrna McLeroy for Texas State Representative, District 44. TCG feels that Myrna’s experience, true conservative principles and values, support of our Constitution and Tea Party values make her the best candidate for the position. TCG recommends a vote for Myrna McLeroy on Dec 14th.

Over the past three weeks, TCG has researched all of the candidates, attended numerous candidate forums, and individually interviewed a subset of the candidates. We believe we have conducted as thorough a vetting process as time has permitted. We also feel we are blessed to have so many qualified candidates in the 44th District. Many of the candidates possess the tea party principles of smaller, less intrusive government; lower taxes to spur economic growth; control of the border, along with illegal immigration; and reducing spending in order to reign in the upcoming projected budget shortfall for our state.

However, the best of the qualified candidates was Myrna McLeroy. She is, in our opinion, the most qualified candidate based on her experience, principles, and values. TCG feels Myrna will have no learning curve. Her top priorities are selection of a conservative Speaker, Redistricting, Illegal Immigration, and the Budget Shortfall.

In addition to our support, Myrna is endorsed by David Barton, founder of WallBuilders; Rick Green, host of WallBuilders Live; Peggy Venable, Director of Americans for Prosperity – Texas; the Young Conservatives of Texas; the Texas Home School Coalition; and a number of other current and former State of Texas Republican Party Officials.

A second candidate stood out in this process as well; unfortunately, it was in the negative sense. On November 16, 2010, at the Wilson County Republican Committee Republican Candidate Forum, John Kuempel pledged his support to the current Speaker of the House, Joe Straus. John Kuempel was the only Republican Candidate to commit to vote for Joe Straus for Speaker.

This was shocking. Joe Straus was elected last legislative session with the support of 65 Democrats and 11 Republicans! Yes, you read that correctly. A Republican Speaker that only had 11 Republicans vote for him. The reward for the Democrats loyalty was handing 14 committee chairmanships to liberal Democrats out of the 32 Committees! Many conservative bills died in committees controlled by Democrats, even though the Republicans were in the majority. Additionally, the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws (NARAL), known more frequently as NARAL Pro-Choice America, has given Joe Straus a rating of 100, according to David Barton of WallBuilders. Joe Straus may very well be the most liberal Republican in the Texas House.

TCG cannot in any way, shape, or form support a candidate who commits to supporting a dangerously liberal Speaker. The Speaker is the most powerful position in the House. We simply cannot have another legislative session with Joe Straus as Speaker, especially with redistricting as a major issue this session. Therefore we could not support John Kuempel.

Early voting ends this Friday, October 29.  Election day is next Tuesday, November 2nd.
